We have stayed at Lantern Inn for the last few years whenever in Hill City. Charlie and his wife have made each of our stays very comfortable. We now look forward to seeing them again each summer as much as we look forward to our vacation!!

Charlie & Janet are fantastic as innkeepers. We enjoyed our "past-the-season" vacation to the max. The room was clean and homey-w/refig and microwave! The dining advice was outstanding. Alpine's prime rib is worth the wait-get there early and enjoy a brew in the lounge and you'll get seated first thing. The Desperato, a new resteraunt, was good-buff burgers were fantastic. Hill City is in a great location to hit the local sites. We especially enjoyed the Rushmore lighting ceremony-very moving! Especially, asking the veterans to come down to the stage and helpend the ceremony! In the off season ask questions as many places are on their own schedules and open and close at non-standard times.

I am at a loss of words. Our vacation in the Black Hills was great. Our stay at the Lantern Inn was a big part of it. My 10 yr old son said it was like staying at Grandmas. My 13 yr old wants to go back next year. I have never been treated better. This is a great big thumb in the nose to all those "Big Box" chains. The Lantern Inn is a step back in time to a place where you are a name and not a number. A Big thank-you to the owners Charlie & Janet. The beds were very comfortable (better than mine). The whole place was clean and well taken care of. Centrally located to all of the Black Hills. Our next trip will definitely include time at the Lantern Inn.

The Lantern Inn was a wonderful place to stay and we'll definitely be back! Charlie, the innkeeper, was very knowledgeable about the area and helped us plan a couple of wonderful day trips (don't miss that scenic drive through Custer State Park on your way to Rushmore!). At the Lantern Inn the rates are more than reasonable, it's centrally located to all the area attractions and the hospitality his first class all the way! Thank you Charlie and Janet for making our trip so memorable!

I remember when I first pulled into Hill City, the Lantern Inn was the only place I saw that looked like home away from home. Charlie and Janet McKay are as good as inn keepers get. They live on the property and treat everyone like family. Perfect location for all sites and attractions. Walking distance to restaurants, Hill City shops and a grocery store right across the street! When you visit to Hill City, South Dakota, the Lantern Inn is the only lodge you really have a deep desire to return to after adventuring in the Black Hills. I stay here every year.

I loved the place because of the pool and hot tub. The owners are very nice. the creek and the bridge gives it more detail. T he rooms were cozy.The survice was excellent. The location was nice . They are also located near the best of resturaunts.I cant wait to go back with my dad.

It was exceptional clean and centrally located to several attractions, resturarants. Very friendly owners, kind of like family. We enjoyed our stay there and would go back. We love Hill City and the area around there.

Janet and Charlie make it a pleasure to stay with them. They bend over backwards for you. Will also make you feel like family. We will stay with them every time we are back in the Black Hills.

Very friendly and great people. On our way through, we stayed 2 more nights than planned. The beds make you really want to go to bed also!
